Song Of The Day (12/25)

"Put It On" By Big L

Another legend shot down way too early. One of New York's most talented rappers for his cunning punchlines, slick delivery and underground sound. On this throwback New York 90s jam, DJ Kid Capri ad libs on the hook to add hype, while L's punchlines are amusing. Real nice joint that represents Hip Hop and how talented this rapper was, despite being killed at an early age.

Song Of The Day (12/24)

"Forever Ain't Enough" By J. Holiday

From his sophomore album, Round 2, Holiday fits this soft building ballad. Jon Orom and Jules Wolfson handle the treatment of soaring strings, light flutes, and pianos, not to mention the puncturing drum beats. Holiday builds this number well, showing his ability to use his falsetto and adapt to the epic sounding drums.

Happy Christmas Eve to all readers!

Song Of The Day (12/23)

"Lights Please" By J. Cole

The newest act to burst onto the rap scene and first signee of Jay-Z's Roc Nation, J. Cole of Fayetteville, North Carolina delivers his debut single. Upon hearing his mixtape, The Come Up, Jay-Z instantly signed the emcee to his newest enterprise. Cole who produces and raps, attended school in New York in pursuits of a record deal. On "Lights Please", a simple drum pattern and piano keys back Cole's fluid flow. He speaks of having a girl who just wants to take it to the bedroom, however Cole tries to speak knowledge and educate her, to no avail. Worthy track that puts NC on the map, since the only rapper to blow from there has been Petey Pablo....

Song Of The Day (12/22)

"Hold You Down" By Jennifer Lopez feat. Fat Joe

Sparkling wind chimes, a steady beat and solemn strings back this duet between Brooklyn Terror Squad general, Fat Joe and the glamorous movie star, Jennifer Lopez. Cory Rooney crafts a cruising production, while J Lo's light, tender singing seem to float above. Trading verses back and forth, this seems more like a friendship track than love relationship number, with the two reflecting on days in the past and holding each other down as good friends rather than lovers. Regardless of its meaning, the track works because of the chemistry between Joe and J Lo, while Rooney's production sets a relaxed mood.

Song Of The Day (12/21)

"Back That Azz Up" By Juvenile feat. Mannie Fresh & Lil' Wayne

Due to the recent releases of New Orleans albums, it was only right we pay homage to Juvenile and remind readers why he became hot. One of his biggest hits from arguably his best album, 400 Degrees, the track came at a time when Cash Money was running things in the south. Juvenile and the Hot Boys were extremely popular and it only grew with famed in house producer, Mannie Fresh, whose famous cello lines and down south drum patterns had the whole south jamming. Juve's catchy, loose flowing delivery made this club banger a feel good jam for parties.

The Lowdown (12/22)

Young Money-We Are Young Money

Wayne's rise to fame has been quite a story, and it was only time before he would drop a compilation featuring his label and bundle of artists. Already with hype, Toronto rapper Drake seems to be the hottest emcee rookie in the game, with hype bigger than most artists out now, even without dropping a debut album. Wayne has also targeted the female fanbase, with femcee, Nicki Minaj who has created some buzz herself for her variety of characteristics and her Harajuku Barbie following. Mack Maine was featured on the "Got Money" remix, "whoooshing" his way with the money and is currently Young Money's president. Tyga who released No Introduction, last year, is also on Young Money. The disc features mixtape favorite, "Steady Mobbin'" featuring Gucci Mane and Wayne's hit line, "Futuristic handgun, if you act foul, you get two shots and one." The disc will introduce teensters, Lil' Chuckee and Lil' Twist, along with T-Streets, Gudda Gudda, Shanell, Jae Millz & Short Dawg.

Lead Single: "Every Girl (Lil' Wayne, Drake, Jae Millz, Gudda Gudda & Mack Maine)", "Bedrock (Lil' Wayne, Gudda Gudda, Nicki Minaj, Drake, Tyga & Jae Millz feat. Lloyd)"

Mary J. Blige-Stronger withEach Tear

Still solidifying her presence in R&B history, Mary J. Blige releases her ninth album after the solid, Growing Pains. Her new album features appearances from Drake, Trey Songz & T.I., and production work from the biggest of producers-Polow Da Don, Stargate, Bryan Michael Cox, to name a few. With a much more mature looking cover, the R&B hitmaker has already turned heads with the autotuned "The One" featuring Drake. Despite this, the album doesn't feature any other autotuned numbers, sticks to Mary's formula and is seemingly strong release.

Lead Single: "The One (feat. Drake)", "I Am"

Hurricane Chris-Unleashed

Unleashing out of his teen self, allowing the parental advisory to don on his sophomore album, Louisiana's own Hurricane Chris is back. With two major hits in "A Bay Bay" and "The Hand Clap" which caught fire on radio, the Ratchet movement representer is back, this time with a dance to accompany his slightly catchy "Halle Berry (She's Fine)." Keeping the album to a tight 10 tracks, bedroom single, "Headboard" with Plies and Mario aims for the charts, while throughout, street producers, Shawty Redd, Phunk Dawg and Mouse handle the heavy hitting club sounds.

Lead Single: "Halle Berry (She's Fine)(feat. Superstarr)", "Headboard (feat. Plies & Mario)"

Song Of The Day (12/20)

"Lil' Girl Gone" By Devin The Dude feat. Bun B & Lil' Wayne

One of Devin The Dude's most serious tracks, "Lil' Girl Gone" features southern stars, Bun B of UGK and Cash Money representee, Lil' Wayne. Wayne delivers one of his most heartfelt verses, while Bun offers a gripping narrative as well. Devin's fitting hook works, sounding calm and relaxed (like most of his music), while tapping snares and piano/string accompaniment make this a movie-like listen. Aside from his numerous numbers to weed, when Devin becomes serious, he's able to create intriguing verses that are among the best. A reason why the Houston emcee has a following and why he continues to be one of the south's most relaxed, yet interesting rappers to date.

Hip Hop News: (12/8) Album Sales Chris Brown Has Highest Sales, Gucci Leads Rappers, Snoop, Clipse & B.G. follow

Possibly the largest amount of releases for December, there was much debate as to who would top the rap's releases. Aside from all those debates, there was question as to weather Chris Brown would sell, considering the circumstances the singer has faced.

In the end, Chris Brown debuted at the seventh spot with a total of 102,000 copies of Graffiti purchased. With uptempo club number, "I Can Transform Ya" assisted by Lil' Wayne and Swizz Beatz, as well as smooth "Crawl", the singer faired decently with this outing. Whether the incident had effect, Brown still put up decent numbers considering the suffering album sales of this day and age.

Rap's hottest trapper, Gucci Mane, who has built up quite a following as of late, sold 90,000 of his sophomore album, The State vs. Radric Davis. Easily his best major label album, the incarcerated rapper's absence in promoting wasn't too bad, because he debuted in the top 10 on the billboard 200.

Next came in west coast veteran, Snoop D-O Double G with Malice N Wonderland. The album proved to be a worthy release from the big boss dogg, moving 59,000 units at the twenty first slot. Party vibed "I Wanna Rock" and the commercial duet with The-Dream on "Gangsta Luv" have created enough hype for the rapper to succeed.

Timbaland delivered his second installment of Shock Value, moving 39,000 units at thirty two on the chart. The Virginia originated producer, recently claimed he was quitting hip hop for its lack of growth in the past few years. Filled with club numbers and collaborations, the album features more of Timbo's vocals than the past Shock Value.

It was another disappointing debut by Virginia rap duo, Clipse who moved 31,000 units of Til The Casket Drops. Despite delivering their classically acclaimed Hell Hath No Fury last year, the duo continue to struggle in selling records and no reason to explain. Street banger, "Popular Demand (Popeyes)" is a worthy collab with Harlem favorite Cam'Ron, while the breezy "I'm Good" and celebratory yet grimy "Door Man" were all solid tracks released in promotion.

Finally New Orleans Hot Boy, B. Gizzle a.k.a. B.G. released his eleventh album in Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood. Suffering two years of sitting on Atlantic shelves, the release was said to be a strong one for the rapper who suffered with drugs and promotion. Inspirational hood anthem, "My Hood" reunites the rapper with former Cash Money producer Mannie Fresh, while Hot Boy reunion number, "Ya Heard Me" is another summer smash for the streets to celebrate. With all this, the Chopper City representer, moved 19,000 units at sixty five on the charts.

Fellow New Orleans Hot Boy member, Juvenile moved another 8,200 of Cocky & Confident, bringing his total to 31,000 units. While B.E.P. move 63,000 to surpass the 1.5 million records sold mark. 50 Cent's Before I Self Destruct moved 23,000 units to bring his total at 279,000, making it another tough week for the G-Unit leader.

Next week, Alicia Keys will debut with The Element Of Freedom, while Robin Thicke takes listeners to Sex Therapy. Will the two R&B acts put up big numbers? Will Clipse rebound or Gucci keep his top spot? Keep it locked to to realtalkhiphop for the next update.

Song Of The Day (12/19)

"Still Ain't Forgave Myself" By T.I.

Craig Love's piano laced beat and reflective manner serve T.I.'s lyrics well on this track. Possibly one of his deepest tracks to date, long before the superstardom, off his largely unnoticed debut album, "Still Ain't Forgave Myself" was the second track. Hopes of reaching the top sound evident in the rapper's somber tone that he carries of reflecting on hood tales and wondering what happened to his friends. Never forgiving himself, the emcee seems to turn those mistakes into making it big for himself to represent those who weren't so fortunate. A heartfelt number that is vital in showing the king's feelings, as an up comer.

Song Of The Day (12/18)

"Roun' The Globe" By Nappy Roots

Kentucky's pride and joy in the rap game, formerly sextet, currently quintet of rappers created this feel good number, workable for both clubs and parties. Sporting their country flavor, this track has each member summing up their experiences around the world, insisting, "the whole damn world is country". There's no denying the track's dance tempo and positive vibe which showcases the crew's fun, loose country personalities.

Song Of The Day (12/17)

"Shawty" By Plies feat. T-Pain

The rap world's loveable goon blew up onto the scene with his chart hit, "Shawty". With a large amount of praise to T-Pain's catchy hook, this slick ladies number features Plies' southern drawl over mellow production. Now becoming one of the South's most popular artists, it was only right the song of the day show where the Floridian got his start.

Song Of The Day (12/16)

"Story Of My Life" By Frankie J.
An intimate ballad off of Frankie J's The One. Longtime collaborator, Happy Perez provides light guitar strumming, while Frankie provides the comforting and soothing vocals to compliment the sound. For the most part its an acapella, backed by light snaps, guitar and keyboards. The stripped sound makes the track that much more meaningful for listeners. Reflecting on life and questioning, "What do you do when your water runs dry? When your greens and your blues turn to black and white?" Real memorable and nice track from Frankie J, a top latino singer.

Song of The Day (12/15)

"What Would You Do" By City High

R&B trio, City High blew up back in 2001 with their smash hit, "What Would You Do." Mentored and created by Wyclef Jean, the trio comprised of Claudette Ortiz, Ryan Toby and Robbie Pardlo, went on to release their self titled debut to much acclaim and success. However two years later, the trio disbanded because each sought solo careers rather than a group effort. Their grammy award winning, "What Would You Do", tells the tale of a young lady in the strip club who uses it to feed her child. The track questions what would you do as a young woman going through struggles. Still sounds fresh to this day with the combination of rapping and R&B.

The Lowdown (12/15)

Sex Therapy: The Session
Robin Thicke-Sex Therapy

Thick returns with a more sexy and slightly raunchy new album with Sex Therapy. Being the first album to don a parental advisory label, the artist has expanded his collaborations with numerous artists for his fourth solo release. Mainly Hip Hop heavyweights appear, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Game (formerly The Game) and uprising stars, Kid Cudi and Nicki Minaj. Big name producers, Dre & Vidal, Polow Da Don and Teddy Riley contribute, with Robin Thicke also handling some production. Thicke's incredibly smooth and soft falsetto is one to die for, and with this release ladies will be swooning.

Lead Single: "Sex Therapy"

The Element of Freedom
Alicia Keys-The Element Of Freedom

Piano wonder Alicia Keys continues her journey as an artist with album four in The Element Of Freedom. Merely four albums deep and the singer has already garnered numerous accolades and praise from fans, as well as critics. A step of maturity with As I Am, Keys has kept the innocent, tender image that she's always had and at the same time, delivered quality music. On her newest, Keys expressed there is a balance between "strong, edgy" and "intimate, vulnerable" which shows the record's balance. Fresh off the success of Jay-Z's New York anthem and nation wide favorite, "Empire State Of Mind", the singer pieces together yet another representation of why she is so talented. Keys also became the first artist to debut their album through popular network website, facebook.

Lead Single: "Doesn't Mean Anything", "Sleeping With A Broken Heart", "Empire State Of Mind (Part II) Broken Down"

Song Of The Day (12/14)

"Never Forget Me" By Bone Thugs N Harmony feat. Akon

The final track on the album, Akon assists with yet another banger. After their mature and struggle driven lead single, "I Tried" which seems to have no hope, they deliver this. Triumphant horns and Bone's classic flow is all over, with a fitting and inspiring Akon hook. Just another reminder why Bone is one of Hip Hop's greatest groups, representing the midwest to the fullest.

Keep It 100 (feat. Magnolia Chop): 4/5
Under Surveillance: 3.5/5
4 A Minute (feat. T.I.): 4/5
I Hustle: 3.5/5

Overall: Lyrically its nothing new from New Orleans vet, B.G. Evident from the album title, he keeps it straight hood and intends to do so in the future. With a large catalog, his eleventh album (!) shows how long he's been in the business. There is a Hot Boys reunion track here, spare incarcerated member Turk, and numerous street/club bangers. B.G.'s signature has always been his flow more than his lyrics, which at times he will recycle. The biggest assisting factor, are the guest appearances, as well as the production which is has some N.O. bounce to plain good southern club beats. Backed by a major proves a good move for B.G., with better production and guests, BGizzle displays the real and shows he's still got it. A must cop by all New Orleans fans, Gizzle knows what his fans what and delivers here, despite the delay.

Song Of The Day (12/13)

"Dilemma" By Nelly feat. Kelly Rowland

Real big throwback moment for most of the teen generation. Nelly's hit with Kelly Rowland was one for the couples to jam. Twinkling production, soft strings and Nelly's sing songy smooth flow compliments the track's overall sound. Rowland's hook was both catchy and nicely arranged, she also helps the track by building a good bridge. Real smooth joint from one of St. Louie's finest.

Song Of The Day (12/12)

"Must Be Nice" By Lyfe Jennings

From his debut, Ohio soulster, Lyfe Jennings was introduced to the world with his lead single, "Must Be Nice." Following a ten year incarceration, Jennings came out a wiser man with bigger dreams to make it in the music industry. Becoming a five time Apollo champ, his debut album, Lyfe 268-192 (his jail cell number), became a success within the R&B scene. The soft guitar playing, and Lyfe's raspified singing gives an earthy feel with a warmer soul. Proving that thugs also have feelings, he pays homage to that special lady whose held him down through all the years of hustling, whippin with the rims and the gold digging women.

Song Of The Day (12/11)

"Lonely" By Ghostface Killah feat. Jack Knight

The Wu's most consistent member, Ghostface Killah recently released an R&B flavored rap album. If you thought he got soft, your sadly mistaken, as Ghost paints vivid tales of love and relationships. This track, "Lonely" finds Ghost at his most mature and ends up being one of the best tracks. Jack Knight softly sings one of the saddest hooks one could imagine, while Ghost speaks of a man getting older and never finding love. A track that shows some feelings from Ghost and proves why he's one of the top storytelling lyricists in the game.

Song Of The Day (12/10)

"His Mistakes" By Usher

While many considered Here I Stand as unfulfilling, one of the album's most heartfelt tracks lies in "His Mistakes". Stargate use their formula once again, but it works thanks to Usher's emotion filled singing. Soft piano keys play, while a midtempo rhythm keeps things moving. Usher sings about suffering the consequences of a past relationship, telling his girl, "I refuse to pay for something I didn't do, I love you." Girls suffering previous heartbreaks, Usher is the man who simply has no chance because of his girl's past and therefore is unfairly treated, despite all the love he shows to her.

Song Of The Day (12/9)

"Welcome 2 Houston" By Slim Thug feat. Chamillionaire, Mike Jones, Bun B, Paul Wall, Yung Redd, Lil' Keke, Z-Ro, Mike D, Big Pokey, Rob G, Trae, Lil' O & Pimp C

Slim Thugga's sophomore album, Boss Of All Bosses was a Texas gem, filled with H-Town bangers and showing a return to the underground ways that Slim originally had. The final track on the album, Thugga gets the state's finest lyricists to unite and prove that H-Town was still in effect, having blown up in 2005 with Mike Jones hit, "Still Tippin'". Chamillionaire croons on the hook, while Mr. Lee's places plucking strings that build and descend with sunny Texas synth, with a steady beat. Even the deceased Pimp C (R.I.P.), has a verse that makes the track in the last minute. A true H-Town banger and one for the south.

Hip Hop News: (12/1) Album Sales: Pied Piper Kellz Fairs Well, NO Vet Juvenile In Top 50

R. Kelly's Untitled went at number 4 with 114,000 sold. Receiving very little promotion and radioplay from both label and stations, its a display of his loyal fanbase. Seemingly one of Jive's top artists, its questionable as to why the album received such little support.
New Orleans continues their strong return to the rap game, as Wayne has done well, but aside from that, Birdman's Pricele$$ sold another 17,000 this week, making a grand total of 54,000. Former Cash Money artist, Juvenile debuted at 43 with 23,000 copies of Cocky & Confident being sold. Supported by singles, "Gotta Get It" and "We Be Getting Money", the Nolia rapper has a solid debut considering the dwindling album sales nowadays.
Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 sold another 28,000 bringing a total of 1,365,000, moving him closer to the 1.5 million mark. While Eminem moved another 8,400 for a total of 1,542,000 of Relapse. Heavyweight 50 Cent's Before I Self Destruct continues to struggle, selling 30,000 bringing a total of 257,000.
Pop star Rihanna moved 59,000 units of Rated R and B.E.P. moved 50,000, coming closer to the 1.5 million mark with 1,490,000 total.
Next week, the New Orleans return continues with fellow Hot Boy, B.G. releasing his Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood, while Clipse hope to find success with Til The Casket Drops on new label Columbia. Gucci hopes to find a good debut with the hype of his incarceration and newfound fanbase that he recently developed, while Snoop will see how the West holds him down and if the public can forgive Chris Brown for his actions with Graffiti. Timbaland hopes his newest will heat dancefloors and we'll see if B.E.P. is able to reach their destined mark of 1.5. million sold.

Hip Hop News: Lil' Wayne's Rebirth Pushed Back Once Again

The rap superstar whom everybody expected to fill their stockings with the rock influenced, Rebirth, has been pushed back once again. The first release dates were announced in April and every since, there have been more and more doubt, resulting in push backs by the label. Cash Money CEO, Birdman posted on his twitter the news, "REBIRTH ALBUM PUSHBACK FEB. 1 YOUNGMONEY CMIN OUT DEC. 21 YADIG YM CMB."

For the meantime, as Birdman stated, Young Money will come out with their compilation, We Are Young Money, to introduce, Lil' Chuckee, Lil' Twist, Gudda Gudda, T-Streets, Jae Millz, Short Dawg, Shanell, Tyga, Mack Maine & Nicki Minaj, aside from superstars Lil' Wayne & Drake. Birdman's Pricele$$ is currently in stores.

Song Of The Day (12/8)

"Grindin'" By Clipse

In commemoration of their newest album, Til The Casket Drops, the song of the day is the Clipse's smash hit that got them recognition throughout the nation. From their debut album, Lord Willin', The Neptunes create their unique beats with popcorn drums and hard hitting percussion with what seems to be slamming garbage cans syncopating the rhythm. The street hitting number worked its way onto the charts and from then on, The Clipse were seen as one of the top duos in the game.

Song Of The Day (12/7)

"Have You Every" By Jaheim

Off of his fourth album, the more mature, The Makings Of A Man. This album displayed the singer finding his sound better than previous albums and delivering nicer hooks. Despite not containing Ghetto in the album title, he still shows the same subject matter as in this song. The smooth hook and piano laced production suits Jaheim's warm rich vocals. Ghetto lyricism about street life, has Jaheim reminiscing and crafting yet another strong track, although the ad libs here are a bit annoying. Solid track from one of R&B's most talented singers.

The Lowdown (12/8)

Til The Casket Drops
Clipse-Til The Casket Drops

December 8th marks a massive list of releases, with the VA duo, Clipse being one of the top. Following their classic Hell Hath No Fury, the Thornton brothers are back to stunt Til The Casket Drops. With a celebratory and feel good vibe throughout the album, the duo create positive lyricism incorporated within production from The Neptunes, Sean C & LV and DJ Khalil. Cam'Ron, Keri Hilson, Yo Gotti, Kanye West, Nicole Hurst, Re-Up Gang member Ab-Liva and plenty of hooks by Pharrell are the guests.

Lead Single: "Kinda Like A Big Deal (feat. Kanye West)", "Popular Demand (Popeyes)(feat. Cam'Ron & Pharrell)", "Door Man"

Graffiti
Chris Brown-Graffiti

Making huge headlines with the assault on pop star girlfriend, Rihanna, Brown will release the most difficult album in his career. Looking poorly in public eye because of the case, Brown attempts to make a comeback. Enlisting big names, Polow Da Don, Swizz Beatz, The Runners and Ryan Leslie, Brown has been relatively quiet since making such huge headlines. Possibly one of his most important releases, we'll see how the public responds to the singer's pleading which is evident throughout the album.

Lead Single: "I Can Transform Ya (feat. Swizz Beatz & Lil' Wayne)", "Crawl"

The State Vs. Radric Davis [Explicit]
Gucci Mane-The State vs. Radric Davis

BURR! BURR! BURR! GUCCI! The Atlanta trapper has developed a considerable amount of acclaim and status within the rap game. Building a strong following, Gucci was involved with big singles, "Obsessed" with Mariah Carey, "Boom Boom Pow Remix" with Black Eyed Peas and Mario's "Break Up". All the mainstream appeal has made Gucci into a bigger star, following the steps of former enemy, Young Jeezy and other big name trap rappers. Potentially the biggest album of his career thus far, Gucci was sent to prison as of November for violating his parole. Before the rapper had violated his probation because he performed merely 25 hours of his 600 community service hours. It seems the same reason was why he went back into prison. With plenty of advertising stating, "Decem-BURR 8th", southern heavyweights, Lil' Wayne, Soulja Boy, Rick Ross, Bun B, Plies and OJ Da Juiceman all make appearances. Memphis producer Drumma Boy handles several tracks, along with Polow Da Don, Zaytoven, Shawty Redd and Bangladesh.

Lead Single: "Wasted (feat. Plies)", "Spotlight (feat. Usher)", "Worst Enemy", "Heavy"

Malice N Wonderland
Snoop Dogg-Malice N Wonderland

West Coast veteran and uncle of the rap game, Big Snoop Dogg returns with his tenth solo album. It's a testament to the rapper's longevity, continuing to rep the West Coast and his Long Beach hood. Released with the album will be a mini movie to accompany the songs on the album and the journey of Malice in Wonderland. Guests include Lil' Jon, Jazmine Sullivan, The-Dream, Soulja Boy, R. Kelly and Nipsey Hussle. Usual suspects, Scoop DeVille, Nottz, The Neptunes, Teddy Riley produce, along with big names, Timbaland, The-Dream & Tricky Stewart and Dr. Dre.

Lead Single: "I Wanna Rock", "Gangsta Luv (feat. The-Dream)", "That's Tha Homie"

Shock Value 2
Timbaland-Shock Value II

Releasing his second edition of his solo Shock Value releases, well known producer, Timbaland compiles a list of popular artists to create one big party. Similar to his first release, its pretty much a collaboration of a number of artists, to create party jams which Timbaland becomes part artist in addition to production. Collaborating with Brandy (in her alter ego, Bran'Nu), Justin Timberlake, JoJo, Miley Cyrus, Nelly Furtado and Drake, to name a few. Mainly produced by Timbaland with protege, JRoc, Polow Da Don, Jim Beanz and some of the artists featured assist with beat duties.

Lead Single: "Morning After Dark (feat. Nelly Furtado & SoShy)", "Say Something (feat. Drake)", "Carry Out (feat. Justin Timberlake)"

Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood
B.G.-Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood

The final release of the first holiday release date is the New Orleans veteran and original Hot Boy, B.G. aka BGizzle. Fellow Hot Boy, Juvenile released his newest album, Cocky & Confident, so it was only right that B.G. deliver his newest and oft delayed return to a major label with Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood. Intended to be released in 2008, T.I. went to prison and he had executive producing duties, which the label didn't provide as much push for the album and was left on the backburner. Despite it all, street savvy B.G. kept his head high and is ready with production from Mannie Fresh, KLC, Oddz N Endz, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League and Cool & Dre. Keeping things all the way street, guest appearances feature Hot Boy members, Lil' Wayne & Juvenile, along with T.I., Young Jeezy, Lil' Boosie, C-Murder, Soulja Slim (R.I.P.) and hooks from Trey Songz, Magnolia Chop and Matravious Cooks. Chopper City member, Gar is also featured on several tracks.

Lead Single: "For A Minute (feat. T.I.)", "I Hustle (feat. Young Jeezy)", "My Hood (feat. Gar & Mannie Fresh)", "Ya Heard Me (feat. Lil' Wayne, Juvenile & Trey Songz)", "Back To The Money (feat. Magnolia Chop)"

First Listen: Clipse-Til The Casket Drops

Life Change (feat. Pharrell & Kenna): 4/5

Overall: The Clipse have grown considerably well as one of the best coke spitting groups in Hip Hop. The duo's greatest appeal is their almost poetic like flow that mixes punchlines and famous phrases to make the drug lifestyle interesting. As they proclaim, "we give the good and bad of each situation." With this album there was no overcoming their sophomore classic, and a desire of the duo to create more diverse music was in the midsts. Similar to their debut is what they aim for, here its a bit more polished with uplifting tracks that are both celebratory and enjoyment of the good life. There are moments of the street grit that they produced in previous albums, however they aren't as highlight worthy and even then are a bit positive. Their debut featured gritty street numbers and some club attempts or crossover tracks, but was merely a decent collection, their classic was a dark and angered release filled with twelve tracks of moving crack and successfully combining lyricism with moody Neptunes production. Here they acknowledge the past, but are more positive and relaxed. It isn't their best, a decent release but still considerably better than most current releases.

Song Of The Day (12/6)

"Gotta Make It" By Trey Songz feat. Twista

Who remembers the toned skinny singer from Virginia? I certainly do, now the muscled grown man who recently released his third album, Ready, the song of the day comes from his debut and burst onto the R&B scene. Always working with mentor, Troy Taylor (produced this track), Songz innocent and convincing vocals of "shawty, all I got is a dolla and the dream is you gon roll with me" remind me of his hunger to reach the top. Simple lyrics and a smooth listen, this uplifting feel good number shows Trey's excellent vocals. Rapper, Twista makes an appearance with a fitting verse. R&B legend, Gerald Levert (R.I.P.) is also in the video.

Song Of The Day (12/5)

"One Day" By UGK

Longtime southern duo, UGK have always been a staple of southern rap. Mainly recognized as underground veterans, it wasn't until 2007 that their self titled album received success from the public. This song, "One Day" is one of the best tracks the duo recorded, off of their classic, Ridin' Dirty. With interpolations of Isley Brothers' "Ain't I Been Good To You", Ronnie Spencer covers the vocals over the reflective bass guitar and smooth drums. Pimp and Bun share memories and deliver tales of upbringing in the south, as Spencer croons, "One day your here, next day your gone". A classic UGK track that is also a notable southern joint. R.I.P. Song of The Day (12/4)

"Jeeps, Lex Coups, Bimaz & Benz" By Lost Boyz

Song of the day is the New York rap crew, Lost Boyz. With head emcee, Mr. Cheeks and one of the best hypeman's in hip hop history with Freaky Tah, DJ Spigg Nice and Pretty Lou rounded out the crew. Their debut album, Legal Drug Money which is recognized as a classic by some and an instrumental New York album featured the hit single. The 90s New York rap style of the track shows how good hip hop was. Mr. Cheeks' flow here assisted by Tah's ad libs make the track essential and important in depicting the golden age of rap. The party vibe, sophisticated flows and solid lyricism show why the Lost Boyz were so important to the rap game and why Freaky Tah will forever be missed (R.I.P.).

Song Of The Day (12/3)

"Ya Heard Me" By B.G. feat. Juvenile, Lil' Wayne & Trey Songz

Dubbed the "Hot Boys" reunion, all original members appear on the track, aside from the incarcerated Turk. The famous New Orleans Hot Boys come back together to bring possibility of a reunion album in the midst. This single off B.G.'s new album, Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood droppin December 8th, is a summery jam that features vocals from Trey Songz and had has the perfect mix of street edge and mainstream appeal. B.G. & Juvenile drop real southern drawled verses reminiscent of their pasts, while Wayne who has become such a large star brings his singing talents to the hook and a nonsensical verse that he's known for creating. Overall a solid single and one that brings hope for NO fans and Hot Boys fanbase. Ya heard me?!

Song Of The Day (12/2)

"If I Can't" By 50 Cent

In a recent discussion with some buddies, we discussed whether or not 50 Cent's debut, Get Rich Or Die Tryin' was a classic. This brought up the idea of one of my favorite songs from that debut, which was "If I Can't". A lesser known song amongst the famous hits that the album spawned, Dr. Dre & Mike Elizondo team up for a bouncy keyboard line that is extremely catchy. 50's hook is infectious while delivering a sophisticated and hungry flow. The song is an example of 50's excellent ability in creating a hook and the type of verses he can deliver when hungry. Unfortunately he's fallen off ever since his debut, but its nice to remember the moments when he was truly hungry and making hits.

Song Of The Day (12/1)

"Out Of My Hands" By Governor

Little known singer, Governor hails from Charles City, Virginia. A country boy with a knack for some old school soul, yet maintaining modern sensibility, he was originally signed to Atlanta rapper, T.I.'s label, Grand Hustle. In association with Atlantic Records, Governor released, Son Of Pain in the fall of 2006. This selection here is the second track on the album, produced by Eddie Scoresazy, featuring elements of Act One's "Friends And Lovers". Truly captivating soul is expressed here, with Governor speaking of a relationship in which he's done all he can, and how he must leave it alone. Nice cut on his solid debut, however he is no longer with Grand Hustle and is independent, possibly working with 50 Cent, considering he recently sung vocals in 50's "Do You Think About Me" performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Pregnant (feat. Tyrese, Robin Thicke & The-Dream): 4.5/5

Overall: R. Kelly's had quite a career, considering the allegations of a case he'd had on his hands for a while and the number of top charting singles he's had, its amazing how he's worked through it all. Untitled is a reminder of just how good the singer is. Despite being on cruise control for a good chunk of the album, he's still enjoyable to listen to, which is a testament to the man's talent as a singer. The album begins with the typical R. Kelly joints, bedroom and sex tales that are decent but don't really impress, however still manage to be listenable. From there it expands into new musical territory, some of which Kellz hasn't worked in, with bittersweet results. What really makes the album is the last three tracks which are golden, each with Kellz actually trying and producing some great material making the album worthy. Decent album it is, nothing too spectacular to note here, but a reminder and worthy release to let you know he can still do it. We just wish he would truly produce something great again.

Overall: Juvy's newest is straight New Orleans southern club party music. A different direction from his last album, its nice to see Juvy back on the scene with his Louisiana drawl and southern tone throughout. His flow sounds energized and more relaxed, as the album is very lighthearted and fun. Consisting mainly of club bangers and street numbers, there are no violent or angry tracks, some dark production but still party flavored. Solid release that brings one of the original Hot Boys back to the rap game, proving he can still get it done lyrically and provide catchy hooks for clubs.

Song Of The Day (11/30)

"Never Gonna Break Up" By Ryan Leslie

In commemoration of a friend's birthday, the song of the day goes to R&B superproducer and singer, Ryan Leslie. My friend's favorite artist as of late, the song of the day is Leslie's introductory song off his latest album, Transition. With a jamming groove and smooth vocals that occasionally dip into a sweet falsetto, the track sets the tone for the story aspect of the album.
